Key Responsibilities:

• Always maintain acceptable professional behaviour
• To ensure a quiet, comfortable atmosphere in which the surgical team can work
• To demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of sterilization, disinfection, and aseptic and sterile technique
• To improve and clarify the knowledge of normal anatomy, physiology and patho-physiology
• To identify the procedures needed to prepare each patient as an individual for the intended surgical procedure
• To demonstrate an understanding of the surgical procedure to be performed by anticipating the needs of the OR team members
• To understand actions and uses of anaesthetic agents, fluids and electrolytes and the patient's responses to it
• To understand the principles of wound management, healing and prevention of inadvertent trauma during surgical intervention
• To identify the potential environmental dangers to the patient through an understanding of the functions and the care of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment
