SUMMARY:
Modjadjiskloof area – Limpopo: Reporting to the Research Manager, the Incumbent will be responsible to manage the avocado rootstock programme (from selection to commercialization)

The ability to design and analyze trials is an integral part of the job.
The incumbent must be willing to travel nationally and internationally to monitor research trials, network with researchers on a global scale and offer technical support to colleagues located across the globe

JOB DESCRIPTION:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Sc. Agric (Horticulture/Genetics) or Ph.D. (Horticulture/Breeding) or related agricultural qualification
Minimum 5 years’ experience in agriculture production / research / breeding
Experience in plant breeding (traditional and/or molecular), with a keen focus on fruit production
Driver’s license

KNOWLEDGE

Breeding and Horticulture principles
Knowledge of traditional breeding protocols
Understanding of molecular approaches with regards to plant material improvement
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
Computer literacy: MS Office (Word, Excel & Power Point)
Financial and Human relations principles
Health and Safety principles

SKILLS

Ability to work independently
Presentation and scientific report writing
Financial budget management
Planning and Organising
Ability to manage technical team
Excellent research skills
Good communication skills
Technical and Analytical skills
