Accountant-Agriculture
POSITION INFO:
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our client in the agricultural sector! You will be accurate, inquisitive and confident in your abilities. You may only be at the early stages of your career, halfway through or nearing the finish line, the mix of experience, attitude, humility and enthusiasm are what matters! Your age and qualifications are in second place, a “can do” attitude come first….
You know that a full understanding of every number that makes a business work is critical to the accounting and analysis of all operations. Your professional character needs things to be current, reconciled & budgeted, and above all documented and filed – a place for everything and everything in its place.
They are a young company, 15 people, supplying equipment to farmers that they either manufacture or distribute for world class suppliers. The company is privately owned with all 3 shareholders working in the business.
They are looking for the person to take charge and ownership of finance operations, including but not limited to:
1. SARS compliant records using Pastel Accounts
2. Invoicing with follow up Debtor & Creditor management
3. Bank reconciliation
4. Payroll and agent commission calculations
5. VAT reconciliation
6. Cash-flow management
7. Purchase order management
8. Data Analysis including preparation of management accounts and performance reports
9. Budget preparation and monitoring
10. Full cost accounting for internal product and process margin optimisation
Criteria:
• Relevant tertiary financial qualification
• 3-5 years’ experience in above
• Strong MS Excel skills with Pastel/Xero or similar experience
• Fully fluent in English and Afrikaans
• Stable track record with excellent references
You will be responsible to one of the three shareholders and working closely with the other 2. You will be the initial point of contact in the Company for all queries around finance. Because you will be working with confidential and sensitive data you will need to demonstrate, and earn, a high degree of trust and respect. You will have an unnatural enthusiasm for Excel and love chasing numbers.
Working on your own a lot of the time they expect a motivated self-starter who shows initiative but doesn’t overlook the daily and weekly discipline required to hit deadlines. They expect the candidate to be office based. You will play a big role in a small team which will test your patience from time to time but allow significant space for personal development and putting your stamp on the day to day and strategic office operations.
