SUMMARY:
An opportunity has become available for our client based in Rosebank, Johannesburg for an Actuarial Assistant / Actuarial Analyst to join the Systems and R&D Team. This is a non-traditional actuarial role, within the Life Assurance team. The candidate will be integral to extend relationships with clients to enhance business opportunities by specialising in the configuration, calibration and development of underwriting systems and tools.

JOB PURPOSE:
An opportunity has become available for our client based in Rosebank, Johannesburg for an Actuarial Assistant / Actuarial Analyst to join the Systems and R&D Team. This is a non-traditional actuarial role, within the Life Assurance team. The candidate will be integral to extend relationships with clients to enhance business opportunities by specialising in the configuration, calibration and development of underwriting systems and tools.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide input into underwriting aspects and documenting of underwriting solutions.
Testing of the software and functionality aspects of our automation features.
Calibration and testing of underwriting solutions.
Ongoing maintenance and query support for solutions implemented.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Actuarial Science university degree Honours degree.
Registered with ASSA or IFoA with at least 6 exam passes; will consider candidates who have decided to stop writing the actuarial exams after having passed at least 6 exams.
Working knowledge of VBA and SQL.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:

Automation of life assurance processes:

Have some knowledge of underwriting principles of individual life assurance.
Have knowledge of operational aspects of individual life assurance.
Have experience of testing systems and processes, and documenting findings.
Have a methodical approach to completing projects that are complex and dynamic.

Business development:

Experience in communicating with external clients
Experience in accurate and systematic note-keeping on client interactions and action items.
Experience in managing client projects that are multifaceted and involve other business units.
Understand the principles of reinsurance and the services offered to insurers.

Business Management:

Experience in minute taking and logical storage of notes and other documents.
Experience in drafting process and how-to guides as part of knowledge retention.
Experience in recording the financial and business performance of clients and projects.
