Assistant Camp Manager

SUMMARY:
The Assistant Camp Manager will be responsible for supporting the Camp Manager in ensuring the smooth daily operations of the lodge. This position involves managing guest experiences, overseeing staff, maintaining high service standards, and ensuring that the lodge runs efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities:

1. Guest Relations:
• Welcome guests and provide personalized service.
• Handle guest requests, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally.
• Assist with planning and coordinating guest activities such as game drives, spa treatments, and dining experiences.
2. Staff Management:
• Supervise and coordinate lodge staff, including housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance, and front-of-house teams.
• Assist in scheduling shifts and managing staff performance.
• Support the training and development of staff to maintain 5-star service standards.
3. Lodge Operations:
• Oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of the lodge, ensuring all areas meet luxury standards.
• Manage inventory and stock control for food, beverages, and other supplies.
• Monitor and report on operational expenses to ensure cost efficiency.
4. Health and Safety:
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain emergency procedures and oversee guest and staff safety.
5. Administrative Duties:
• Assist with bookings, reservations, and guest billing processes.
• Prepare daily and weekly operational reports.
6. Marketing and Sales:
• Promote the lodge to guests, travel agents, and tour operators.
• Assist in building positive relationships with local and international stakeholders.

POSITION INFO:
Education:

• Diploma/Degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field (preferred).

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a 4- or 5-star game lodge or luxury hospitality environment.
• Previous management or supervisory experience is essential.

• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle high-pressure situations.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Proficient in lodge management software (e.g., Opera, Protel) and basic Microsoft Office Suite.

• Friendly and approachable demeanor with a passion for guest service.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining luxury standards.
• Ability to adapt to remote living and work in a team-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of the local environment, flora, fauna, and culture (advantageous).

• Valid driver’s license (preferably with PDP).
• First Aid certification (preferred).
• Willingness to live on-site in a remote location.
• Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g., Zulu, Afrikaans, or European languages) are a plus.
