Assistant Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY:
Duties & Responsibilities

1. General Maintenance & Upkeep
• Assist in overseeing daily maintenance operations across the lodge.
• Ensure all lodge facilities, including guest accommodations, dining areas, staff quarters, and common areas, are in excellent condition.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural systems.
• Supervise and participate in repairs of buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
2. Staff Supervision & Training
• Assist in managing the maintenance team, assigning daily tasks, and ensuring high standards of work.
• Train and mentor maintenance staff on safety protocols, equipment handling, and lodge-specific standards.
• Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Maintenance Manager.
3. Water & Energy Management
• Oversee borehole water systems, water purification, and sewage treatment plants.
• Assist in managing the lodge’s energy efficiency, including generators, solar panels, and backup power systems.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding water and energy conservation.
4. Guest & Staff Safety
• Ensure all maintenance work adheres to health and safety standards.
• Conduct regular safety checks on fire equipment, security systems, and emergency response procedures.
• Respond promptly to guest and staff maintenance requests to ensure comfort and safety.
5. Asset & Inventory Management
• Assist in managing maintenance budgets and procurement of materials.
• Maintain records of repairs, servicing schedules, and inventory of tools and equipment.
• Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for outsourced maintenance work.
6. Project Management & Improvements
• Assist in planning and executing renovations, upgrades, and lodge improvement projects.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to develop long-term maintenance strategies.

POSITION INFO:

• Education: Diploma or trade qualification in Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in maintenance roles, preferably in a luxury hospitality or remote lodge environment.
• Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
• Experience with generators, borehole systems, and water treatment plants is an advantage.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems and solar power installations.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and in remote locations.
• Other Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license.
• First aid certification (advantageous).
