Our client in the Manufacturing Industry is looking to hire an Assistant Printing Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Production
- Assist in planning, implementing, and managing the company’s entire process of flexo printing production.
- Direct, oversee and participate in the work plan – assign work and monitor the workflow and project status.
- Ensure that printing production targets are met.
- Ensure production control and compliance according to the specifications.
- Oversee and maintain all the processes in the printing department.
- Make recommendations to improve plant operations and resolve any related problems.
- Follow specifications for new components in the department to improve processes and cost efficiency.
- Provide manufacturing information by initiating, compiling, sorting, and analysing production performance records and data.
- Maintain the workflow by monitoring steps of the process, setting processing variables, observing control points and equipment, monitoring employees and resources and studying methods.
- Prepare for cyclical meetings, including but not limited to daily, monthly, and yearly reviews.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Attend HOD and other relevant meetings in the absence of the Printing Manager.
International Organisation for Standardization
- Ensure compliance to the ISO Management System.
- Assist the Printing Manager with the update and maintenance of ISO procedures, documents and policies and ensure compliance with ISO standards.
Quality Assurance
- Monitor and maintain the quality of orders.
- Ensure that quality objectives are met.
- Work hand in hand with the quality control team to ensure the consistency and conformance of company’s products.
- Ensure compliance to quality control processes in all areas in Printing department.
- Carry-out spot checks on production quality in Printing department.
- Ensure that subordinates adhere to the instructions noted on job cards and that discrepancies are reported and amended timeously to the Planning Department.
Inventories
- Compile stock takes of relevant items.
- Monitor the use and inventories of relevant materials and initiate orders where necessary.
- Ensure the re-use of materials.
- Manage the supply of documentation, i.e. labels, production interruption reports etc.
- Follow the process to purchase goods contains the required quotations, approvals, and commercial thresholds
Housekeeping
- Monitor and oversee the cleanliness of the department.
Maintenance
- Assist in initiating the planning of preventative maintenance.
- Daily assess and monitor equipment from a mechanical and electrical perspective.
- Liaise with the maintenance department regarding maintenance requests for the printing department.
Reporting
- Assist the Printing Manager with the following:
- Analyses of daily reports.
- Daily production report compilation.
- Monitor and compile a scrap generation report daily.
- Maintain and update all relevant documents and reports.
People Management
- Oversee all employees in the printing department.
- Follow and enforce all established systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure accountability and management of staff to facilitate high quality, cost effective and timely production.
- Ensure that company disciplinary and grievance procedures are followed.
- Enforce the company code of conduct.
- Manage direct reports according to company standards – recruitment and selection, performance management, training, and development etc.
Training
- Train, coach and guide employees on applicable legislation, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Training of employees regarding production and quality aspects.
Health and Safety
- Adhere to health and safety legislation and workplace policies and procedures.
- Oversee adherence to health and safety legislation and workplace policies and procedures.
- Prepare and oversee the implementation of internal policies and procedures relating to the printing department.
Requirements
- National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification (National Certificate Vocational, Senior Certificate).
- 5 years’ experience in Flexographic printing.
- 3 years’ experience in a management role.
- 5 years’ experience using CI printing machines.
- Qualifications in Flexographic printing.
- Knowledge of Syspro is advantageous.
- Computer literate and competent in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Read, speak, and write English.
