Capacity and Availability Manager

SUMMARY:
The purpose of Capacity and Availability Management is to ensure that the organization has, at all times, sufficient resources to deliver the business workload. It is concerned with having the appropriate IT capacity and making best use of it. Ideally it is a pro-active planning process, but in practice a Capacity Manager does have to be reactive. The more successful the proactive activities of Capacity Management, the less need there will be for the reactive activities.
 
Capacity and Availability Management needs to understand the business requirements (the required Service Delivery), the organization's operation (the current Service Delivery) and the IT Infrastructure (the means of Service Delivery) and ensure that all the current and future Capacity and Availability performance aspects of the business requirements are provided cost-effectively.

POSITION INFO:
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures that appropriate levels of monitoring of resource capacity and system performance are executed, and that the information recorded in a configuration management database (CMBD) is kept up-to-date and used by all parts of the Capacity Management process.
• Provides regular management reports, which include current usage of resources, trends, and forecasts.
• Contributes to reports on performance against targets contained in Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Maintains a knowledge of future demand for IT resources and associated SLAs and predicts the effects of demand on performance service levels.
• Determines when system resources should be tuned and makes recommendations to IT management on the design and use of system resources to optimize their use.
• Provides resolution recommendations to performance-related Incidents and Problems.
• Ensures that there is sufficient capacity to meet service level targets.
• Provides capacity requirements for new or modified IT services.
• Maintains an overall understanding of current service capacity and trends.
• Produces and maintains a Capacity Plan
• Assesses the capacity impact of new change requests, Problems, and Incidents.
• Participates on the Change Advisory Board (CAB) as needed
• Is responsible for monitoring IT capacity levels, comparing actual levels against targets, and addressing shortfalls.
• Ensures that appropriate levels of monitoring of resource capacity and system performance are executed, and that the information recorded in a CBD is kept up-to-date and used by all parts of the Capacity Management process.
• Provides regular management reports, which include current usage of resources, trends, and forecasts.
• Contributes to reports on performance against targets contained in (SLA’s).
• Maintains a knowledge of future demand for IT resources and associated SLAs and predicts the effects of demand on performance service levels.
• Determines when system resources should be tuned and makes recommendations to IT management on the design and use of system resources to optimize their use.
• To provide subject matter expertise to understand to causes and effects of availability faults and issues to assist in the delivery within specified SLA (Service Level Agreement) and business requirements.
• To participate in the creation of availability requirements for new and modified IT services and Cis to ensure the design of new or modified services meet company and customer requirements.
• To participate in the evaluation of third-party supplier components and services to ensure availability and the services meet company and customer requirements.
• To participate in Service Availability Assessments by providing and assessing technical infrastructure on end-to-end services.

• Driver's license with reliable transport (Compulsory)

• Related Tertiary Qualifications
• An M+3 Qualification would be an advantage
• ITIL Foundation Qualification would an advantage

• At least 4 to 5 years Capacity Management experience (Essential).
• Proven record of accomplishment of at least 5 years' experience in the IT industry.
• Previous experience in Capacity Planning, Reporting and Availability technical role solutions are crucial.
• Being able to translate business needs into technology solutions.
• Proven ability to understand the dynamics of technology.
• Experience in Mainframe and Open Systems.
