JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To link the research of the organization with the target community by creating awareness of the research (roadshows, events, organized meetings, present studies) through Community Advisory Groups and to contribute to the strategies of recruitment and retention

Location:

  • Ward 21 CRS - 22 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Develop ongoing strategies for community participation in research projects in conjunction with management
  • Prepare and make presentations to community groups and structures on project activities (i.e. roadshows, stakeholder visits, pamphlets distributions, etc.)
  • Participate in radio shows to create awareness of research study
  • Organize, attend and facilitate meetings with the Community Advisory Group (CAG) and individuals
  • Monitor the ongoing activities of the Community Advisory Group (CAG) including the planning of meetings and training of the CAG
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the process of community mobilization
  • Work closely with the Research Team to document and respond to issues arising from the community
  • Establish a monitoring and evaluation system to measure the coverage and impact of the community intervention
  • Maintain study documentation according to monitoring requirements
  • Prepare meeting agendas and circulate minutes timeously
  • Compile reports to the Research Team, management, and donors as and when required
  • Review and update materials for different studies as needed
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities such as forums, conferences, policy setting workshops, etc.

Required minimum education and training:

  • Grade 12
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Fluent in English and other African languages

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in community health development and programs

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • A Diploma in Public Relations or similar (i.e. Community Development)
  • Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Experience in HIV and sexual reproductive health and/or a research environment
  • Experience in the voluntary sector
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to network with various stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Be tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
  • Sensitive to diversity and open to change
