About the Role
Are you passionate about renewable energy and driving innovative energy solutions? We are seeking a Customer Segment Lead to spearhead business development efforts for medium and small customers in the energy sector. This role is pivotal in delivering a consistent pipeline of energy supply agreements and shaping renewable energy offerings tailored to customer needs.
Reporting to the Head of Sales, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, engaging with key stakeholders, and ensuring that wheeling products align with market trends and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Market & Opportunity Analysis:
- Research customer energy needs, procurement processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify emerging opportunities in the medium (<50MW) and small (1-5MW) customer segments.
Business Planning & Strategy Development:
- Develop financial and operational plans for customer-focused energy solutions.
- Build strong relationships across manufacturing, mining, retail, municipalities, and agriculture sectors.
- Stay ahead of Eskom tariff structures, market trends, and policy changes to maintain competitive positioning.
Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement:
- Establish and nurture relationships with customers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
Product & Solution Development:
- Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement renewable energy solutions for customers.
Sales & Business Development Execution:
- Lead sales processes by identifying customer needs and securing energy supply contracts.
- Present compelling value propositions to demonstrate cost reduction, reliability improvements, and energy efficiency.
- Negotiate Energy Supply Agreements and wheeling arrangements.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Track and report sales performance, contract execution, and customer acquisition metrics.
- Use data analytics to assess market trends and refine strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with product development, legal, and trading teams to ensure strategic alignment.
- Assist in structuring and pricing energy supply agreements competitively.
Innovation & Industry Best Practices:
- Research and implement global and regional best practices to drive innovation in energy solutions.
Requirements
? 8+ years of experience in sales, business development, or product development, ideally in the energy sector.
? Strong understanding of South Africa’s energy market, regulatory landscape, and operational requirements.
? Proven ability to identify and secure business opportunities in the medium to small customer segment.
? Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
? Experience working collaboratively across internal teams and external partnerships.
? Passion for renewable energy and the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
