The CAD Draughtsperson will form part of an engineering team on large and small projects and will be responsible for the production of drawings in accordance with project requirements. Using CAD design software to create 3D models of road layouts and longitudinal sections and storm water layouts. To provide drawing and design support to Engineers for both front end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for transport, stormwater as well as multi-disciplinary projects by preparing road layouts, longitudinal sections, road setting out details, relevant road details, generate intersection grading plans, roadsigns, strip maps or activity schedules for resurfacing and rehabilitation projects, stormwater layouts and details. Drawing details to include all dimensions, notes, line styles, issue notes, etc. necessary for the construction process according to the company quality control system. Coordinate and manage all 3D models from different disciplines involved to combine entire design (Central Model Management). Responsible person to manage CAD standards and symbols for the transport division.
This role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of design principles, and the ability to work within project timelines.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
Drawing Production
- Assist Engineers by producing drawings for various projects following the project specifications and quality standards.
- Ensure that drawing registers and issue slips are maintained in accordance with project specific requirements. File all issue slips correctly.
- Ensure that all drawings are filed electronically (and in hard copy if needed) in accordance with project specific requirements.
- Maintain and develop libraries for road and stormwater projects (parametrically constrained 3D models included as needed) to ensure consistency and quick deployment of symbols and designs.
Quantities
- Set up drawings to assist with calculation of quantities and calculate quantities as needed.
Quality and HSE Management
- Ensure that drawings are delivered correctly and on time.
- Comply with the Company’s quality management procedures.
- Comply with and embrace Health and safety requirements in the workplace.
Client satisfaction
- Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company, and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Ensure that all drawings meet with Client standards and expectations.
Effective Project Management
- Adhere to project cost budgets. Ensure that all tasks are carried out with due consideration to and compliance with project budgeted hours.
- Correctly book time on Projects and submit timesheets timeously and update resource schedule on weekly basis.
- Contribute towards ensuring that the department’s utilization targets are achieved by consistently maintaining targeted individual utilization.
- Coordinate the process of generating and managing digital models across the project.
EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS
- At least a Grade 12 qualification plus relevant course certificates.
- A Diploma in Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice will be advantageous.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 5 – 6 years draughting experience in a Transport division environment is essential.
- Experience on and knowledge of SANRAL and Western Cape Government roads and stormwater projects will be advantageous.
- 3D Modelling experience will be advantages.
- BIM modeller and coordinator experience will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of software packages including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Infraworks, Excel, GIS and the handling of big data projects in these packages.
- Ability to work in a team is essential.
- Ability to work under pressure is essential.
- Good communication skills in Afrikaans and English is essential.
- Willingness to learn and improve technical capabilities is essential.
