We invite applications from candidates for the fixed-term contract position as a Driver for DTHF Head Quarters (60%) and DTHF Sites (40%). The main purpose of this position is to ensure the timeous drop off and pickups of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to Head Quarters, External meetings and Conferences, whilst she works en-route to these meetings/conferences. In addition the incumbent will also be required for the secure transportation of goods, and other staff as and when required, as well as to assist with general duties when not driving.The position is based at the DTHF Head Quarters (Woodstock); however, the successful candidate will be required to work across specific DTHF Sites and all related locations within Cape Town, when the need arises.
Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Valid current South African code 10 Drivers Licence with PDP licence
- Possession of own reliable vehicle for the purpose of getting to and from various work locations
- At least 2-3 years' driving experience; preferable professional driving work experience
- Knowledge of South African National Traffic Laws & Regulations, as well as attention to safety and security
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge of Cape Town, Western Cape travel routes
- The ability to read road maps efficiently and work with google maps
- Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of light commercial vehicles
- Knowledge in the operation of commercial passenger vans or equivalent
- Knowlegde of national and local traffic laws and regulations
- Working knowledge on routine maintenance of vehicles
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions via Line Managers
- Effective communication (verbal and written); fluent in English
- Interpersonal skills
- Diligent attention to road safety
- Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Good time management through planning of daily route to maximise efficiency
- Ability to function as part of a team as well as the ability to work independently
- Maintain strict client confidentiality
- No traffic violations or offences
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including weekends
- Willingness to assist with General Work at both Head Quarters (Woodstock) and other Sites

- Experience as a Chartered Driver

- Advanced Driving Course Certification
- Dangerous Goods Certification
- Maintenance Certification (plumbing/electrical)

Responsibilities:
- Driving the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) daily to pre-arranged meetings/conferences and site visitations, flexibility with respect to working hours for pickups to early meetings and late drop-offs for afternoon meetings
- Safely transport equipment, staff, participants and/or other personnel to various research sites and required locations a timely, safe and courteous manner when required, whilst ensuring the SA Road and Traffic Ordinances are followed
- Operate a vehicle to transport persons and goods to and from specified destinations, as directed
- Perform rountine vehicle maintenance, such as checking oil, water, tyres, fuel, lighing and notify Faclities Manager of maintenance issues and services due
- Report any routine or non-routine vehicle problems or malfunctioning equipment to Facilities management verbally and in writing and where possible assist in obtaining quotes
- Follow organisational instructions, procedures, and standards for the efficient & safe operation of the vehicle, as well as for the care and safety of passengers
- Assist the Operational & Facilities Manager on site when not driving with general work as and when required
