Some questions you may have?

What experience do I need to work as an English teacher in Taiwan?

Generally speaking, no experience is necessary. Our associate offers free training, and you’ll receive a lot of support from their teachers. However, having teaching experience is a plus, as you’ll be earning more from the start.

Do I need to have a bachelor's degree in order to apply?

You will need either a bachelor’s degree or an associate degree and a TEFL (or equivalent) certificate.

Does you offer short-term or summer contracts?

Only 12-month contracts are offered.

How long can I work as an English teacher in Taiwan?

All of their 12-month contracts are renewable, so it’s really up to you. In fact, more teachers have been working here in Taiwan for more than 3 years.

What is the workload like?

Most teachers teach between 22 and 26 hours per week, and you are guaranteed a minimum of 20 teaching hours per week. You will need to spend some time preparing lessons, but we have made sure all of our lessons are intuitive to teach, so this may only take 20 to 30 minutes to do. Besides some admin work like homework grading, the rest is up to you, and all of this is compensated for with an extra NT$3,000 per month on top of your monthly income.

Will I have weekends off?

There are no classes on Sundays, and while our associate offers classes on Saturdays, students prefer taking classes on weekdays. The current percentage of teachers who teach on Saturdays is around 15%, and most of these classes are in the mornings.

How much time off will I get?

There are about 12 national holidays in a normal year. The general hours that teachers in Taiwan work is around 25 hours a week.
 
How long are the lessons?

Class lengths vary depending on the class level you are teaching. Most classes are 2 hours long.

How old are the students?

Our students range in age from 3 to 16 years old.

How many students are in a class?

Classes average around 15 students per class. A preferred limit of 20 students, however it really verifies in different schools and regions.

When will I know which school I’ll be placed at and what my schedule will be like?

You will be asked to give our associate your preferences during your interview and again when you get hired. You will receive the confirmed location of your school before you leave South Africa.

What is the interview process?

2. Short-listed teachers will be asked to complete an application form, forward a copy of their degree/TEFL certificate, provide a 1-minute video, profile picture and introduction
3. Selected teachers will be invited to an online interview by a Hey Teacher Recruiter
4. Relevant information will be forwarded to our associate in Taiwan.
5. Selected teachers will be invited by our Taiwanese associate to attend an online interview.

What cost will I be responsible for?

Teachers will be responsible for their return tickets, visa's, hotel while in isolation.  They will be assisted and guided in finding their own accommodation.  Online training will be provided whilst in isolation.
