EXTERNAL TECHNICIAN (COMPRESSORS)

Our client based in Port Elizabeth is looking for an experienced External Technician.

Purpose:

This position is responsible for booking appointments with clients to carry out the servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and overhauling of compressors. Responsibilities also include excellent time management, dealing with customers, ensuring follow up, managing the flow of work so no jobs are overlooked and effectively completing paperwork.

Educational Requirements

• Minimum education = Grade 12 or equivalent
• Completion of an apprenticeship, certification or associate degree program.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
• Basic computer skills

Work experience

• Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience preferably on compressors

Operational requirements

• Execute daily tasks and work instructions according to relevant Procedures
• Book appointments with external clients ensuring accuracy of bookings and follow up.
• Interact with clients to troubleshoot and to ensure accurate fault finding.
• Manage bookings and the flow of work, so that no jobs are overlooked and for efficiency.
• Ensure all types of jobs are attended to: call-outs; repairs; servicing and testing on compressors.
• Provide clients with quotations when requested or needed.
• Complete reports required by management and submit in a timely manner.
• Complete job cards & costings and ensure all required paperwork is completed accurately and timeously
• Ensure parts & spares are ordered for all required jobs and follow up on delivery status.
• Ensure time is managed efficiently and provide excellent customer service and follow up.
• Conduct fault-finding and run tests on the compressors.
• Ensure all tools and equipment are packed and ready for each job
• Manage the company vehicles, conduct checks and ensure proper maintenance.
• Provide technical support as required.
• Delegate responsibilities to other capable employees as is required.
• Perform all duties within your capabilities, which may differ to what is stated above, as requested by management.

Supervision

• Ensure vehicle, tooling and parts are ready and properly organised for calling on clients for assigned jobs.
• Ensure compliance with all SHE, HR and Quality procedures
• Manage work activities, resources and tasks in accordance with agreed service/delivery targets and daily/weekly/monthly plans
• Effectively execute the policies, procedures and goals of the organization

Financial

• Ensure effective cost saving and waste elimination
• Participate and assist in gathering information for stock takes

Human Resources

• Familiarise yourself with and, at all times, act in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures

• Ensure consistent adherence to the company’s disciplinary code, grievance procedures and relevant legislation (BCEA, LRA, etc)

Quality Compliance

• Comply with Quality requirements as outlined by the company Procedures and Written Instructions in all tasks and activities
• Ensure that the required procedures and Quality standards are adhered to
• Complete all documentation timeously and accurately

Safety, Health & Environmental

• Carry out any duty or requirement imposed on the company by the OHS Act
• Ensure that the requirements of the OHS Act are complied with by every person under your supervision
• Ensure that reasonably practicable steps are taken to identify, manage or eliminate any hazards or potential hazards to the safety or health of employees
• Report any unsafe or unhealthy situations to the Technical Manager
