JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • Collection of blood/saliva/naso pharyngeal samples as per the various protocols as well as the spinning and shipping requirements
  • Sampling to be collected as per IATA requirements

Location:

  • Helen Joseph Hospital – Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Conduct the trial in accordance with study timelines, and specific requirements of the Sponsor, the Network, and CRS Investigators
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the project protocol requirements
  • Participate in Project Team meetings as required and provide constructive feedback and support to other team members
  • Maintain a positive and constructive partnership with study Investigators and other site staff through constructive feedback, provision of assistance, and active problem solving
  • Identifying the participant with the relevant documentation and sampling kits prior to commencing sample collections
  • Ensure that all samples are drawn as per the correct procedures
  • Knowledge of the spinning of samples and maintaining the required timelines for sample processing to ensure the stability of laboratory specimens as per the laboratory manual
  • Ensure all laboratory results are received timeously and distributed to relevant staff members
  • Identify laboratory result abnormalities; ensure any that abnormalities are reported accordingly
  • Ensure that study specimen are stored and shipped according to the protocol manual
  • Follow the pre-determined channels of communication with the Sponsor
  • Document all communication
  • Management of clinical participants and assisting with the required procedures for clinical visits
  • Review the CRFs/Source Document per protocol
  • Identify inaccurate and incomplete CRF entries
  • Identify the correct and/or complete information in order to have a complete and accurate CRF
  • Ensure the defined protocol is adhered to at all times
  • Ensure all required protocol parameters are followed and recorded accurately at all times
  • Ensure study staff are following study standard operating procedures at all times

Required minimum education and training:

  • Registered as an enrolled nurse
  • GCP training will be advantageous
  • Excellent clinical skills

Required minimum work experience:

  • 1 years experience in a clinical research environment
  • IATA certification would be advantageous
  • Experience in the collection of samples from children would be advantageous

Professional body registration:

  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • It is expected that s/he will be responsible for a number of tasks that require good organizational, administrative, and analytical skills
  • It is expected that s/he will apply consistent adherence to research and GCP practices
