Feedlot Assistant Manager

SUMMARY:
A Feedlot Assistant plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of a feedlot, where livestock (typically cattle) are raised and finished for market. The role involves animal care, feeding, maintenance of facilities, and assisting with overall feedlot operations to ensure the health and productivity of the livestock.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:

1. Animal Care:
• Monitor the health and behavior of livestock, identifying signs of illness or distress.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as needed.
• Ensure livestock have access to clean water and feed.
2. Feeding:
• Operate feed trucks or machinery to deliver feed to livestock.
• Mix and distribute feed rations according to feeding schedules and nutritional plans.
• Maintain accurate feeding records.
3. Maintenance and Repairs:
• Maintain feedlot infrastructure, such as fences, gates, and water systems.
• Perform minor repairs on equipment and facilities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
4. Cleaning and Sanitation:
• Clean and sanitize pens, feeding areas, and water troughs to prevent the spread of disease.
• Remove manure and bedding as required.
5. Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of livestock movements, treatments, feed intake, and health observations.
• Assist with inventory tracking for feed, medications, and supplies.
6. Animal Handling:
• Assist with the movement of livestock, including sorting, loading, and unloading animals.
• Use safe and humane handling techniques.
7. General Support:
• Assist with weighing and grading livestock.
• Support other feedlot staff during busy periods or special projects.

POSITION INFO:
Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• A background in agriculture, animal science, or a related field (preferred).

• Prior experience in livestock handling or feedlot operations (advantageous but not always required).
• Experience operating farm machinery such as tractors, loaders, and feed trucks.
