SUMMARY:
Financial Accountant in retail industry

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Retail experience 
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • Relevant accounting qualification such as a B Com Accounting.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel, as and when required, within SA and outside of SA such as to Eswatini, Namibia and Botswana. 3-4 times per month.  Candidates must be in possession of a valid Driver’s License.

  • 1 – 2 years’ relevant experience such as SAIPA.
  • Someone who has done articles would be ideal.
  • The systems we currently work on are SAP and Xero.

Key Deliverables of the Financial Accountant

  1. Cash book maintenance.
  2. Management of creditors’ function (including supplier payment, reconciling to supplier statement).
  3. Management of debtors’ function (including debt collection and reconciling debtors’ balances).
  4. Provide monthly creditor and debtor age analysis.
  5. Reconcile salary information provided by third party salary administrators to bank account payments.
  6. Reconcile VAT accounts, prepare and submit VAT returns as well as make payments, collect refunds as is applicable.
  7. Daily takings reconciliations for takings relating to the prior day for all stores, with the weekends and public holiday takings being reconciled on the next working day.
  8. Reconciliation of petty cash items at the stores on a monthly basis.
  9. General ledger responsibility.
  10. Daily bank reconciliations.
  11. Other asset/liability reconciliations.
  12. Fixed assets – sub ledger to general ledger.
  13. Maintenance of general ledger to trial balance.
  14. Prepare management accounts on a monthly basis.
  15. Enhance internal operational efficiencies and development of reporting tools to enhance the performance of the business.
  16. Ensure compliance with tax authorities and other statutory legislation.
