Position: Fitter
Department: Mining Maintenance – Underground Surface Maintenance (Refrigeration)
Grade: C2
The incumbent will work as part of a team which will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance atSurface Refrigeration section.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Carrying out repairs and maintenance on all mechanical equipment including but not limited to
ammonia refrigeration plants, air compressors, overhead cranes, pumps, belt and screw conveyors, main ventilation fans, geared drives, hydraulic systems, water and air pipelines, batch plant, calorifiers and valves.
• Assisting supervisor in compliance with planned maintenance system.
• Ensuring adherence to SHEQ standards.
• Maintaining and fault finding on chiller plant systems and performing legal duties.
• Performing standby duties.
Intrinsic Qualities:
• Good working knowledge of the ventilation process.
• Must have a good understanding of the mine Integrated HSEQ system.
• Good communication skills.
• Must be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
• Must be able to identify potential hazards related to job and take action to perform all work within the framework of safe work practices provided.
• Must be willing to work shifts when required.
• Must be adaptable to change.
• Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation with regards to refrigeration plant operations.
• Good understanding and knowledge of planned maintenance principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and without supervision.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Qualified Fitter
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum of three years’ experience working in Ammonia R717 Refrigeration plants.
• Experience in maintenance of Conveyor belts, Overhead cranes, Pressure vessels, Vacuum
systems Weir Mineral pumps.
• Ammonia R717 handling certificate
• Refrigeration R-certificate(s)
• Knowledge of York and Howden screw compressors
• Knowledge of Kaeser screw Compressors
• Knowledge of testing pressure vessels
