RS Recruitment Services is assisting a leading organisation in the FMCG RETAIL industry to recruit a GROUP HEAD CHEF to be based at their offices in DURBAN – Salary Negotiable

OUR CLIENT HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND IS PART OF A GROUP OF 350 RETAIL STORES ACROSS SOUTHERN AFRICA.

The Purpose of the position

Group Head Chef – Deli/Takeaway (Supermarket Group)

Our client is seeking an experienced Group Head Chef to oversee the Deli/Takeaway operations across multiple supermarket locations. This role requires strong leadership, menu innovation, and operational expertise to maintain high food quality, consistency, and cost efficiency.

Applicants should have/be the following:

2 years prior experience as a Head Chef in a Deli, Takeaway, or multi-site supermarket food service.

10 years’ experience managing a kitchen including costs, pricing, suppliers and menus.

Experience with menu innovation.

Experience training kitchen staff on new recipes.

Work closely with supermarket managers to align strategy with business goals.

Strong leadership.

Financial acumen and operational management skills.

Ability to manage multiple sites, standardize procedures, and optimize kitchen efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work closely with supermarket managers to align strategy with business goals.

Maintain quality, presentation, and innovation in line with market trends.

Develop and manage Deli/Takeaway menus, ensuring consistency and customer appeal.

Lead and train kitchen teams across multiple sites, fostering a high-performance culture.

Control food costs.

Supplier negotiations.

Ensure compliance with food safety standards.
