Location: Salt River, Cape Town
Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Gearbox Technician/Gearbox Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
- Performing transmission repairs as outlined.
- Diagnosing the cause of malfunctions accurately.
- Removing, disassembling, and repairing transmission units.
- Advising on additional work needed or repairs that cannot be made.
- Communicating with the parts department to obtain necessary parts.
- Installing transmissions, replacing fluids, and making adjustments.
- Road testing vehicles when required or referring to a test technician.
- Documenting work performed and recommendations on repair orders.
- Staying updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervising apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Reporting machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of Company vehicles.
- Ensuring a neat and organized shop area.
- Being accountable for all Company-owned tools and manuals.
- Complying with safety regulations and reporting safety issues to management.
- Operating tools and equipment safely.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements, Attributes, and Skills:
- Own tools required.
- Grade 12 qualification.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience as a Gearbox Technician/Gearbox Specialist.
- Code 14 Driver’s License.

- Excellent comprehension and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Competence in basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

- An ability to effectively present information to small groups and individuals.
