Geology Manager

Mpumalanga, Trichardt

Primary Responsibilities

The Geological Manager is responsible to lead, plan and organize specific activities in the short and medium term within the specific sites.

Specific Responsibilities

Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters.

ï‚· Responsible for capital, revenue and expense budgeting for Trichardt Geology Department.

ï‚· Ensure that Trichardt Geology Laboratory site have capable staff to ensure the work flow.

ï‚· Responsible for effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.

ï‚· Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

ï‚· Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by direct line manager.

ï‚· Keep abreast of new trends, current development and relevant research.

ï‚· Adhere to our clients Health and Safety regulations and rules.

ï‚· Manage personnel at the Trichardt Geology Laboratory.

ï‚· Develop and execute operating plans, targets/budgets for such operations as per above

ï‚· Perform relevant technical training to new/existing staff at Trichardt Geology Laboratory

ï‚· Perform monthly meetings with relevant supervisors.

ï‚· Implement and upheld the ISO 17025.

ï‚· Acquire, analyze, manage and interpret geological data.

ï‚· Implements systems to monitor, update and publish resource models for use by stakeholders.

ï‚· Carries out grade control in order to obtain targeted resource quality.

ï‚· Initiates, monitors and controls short-term sectional projects to ensure attainment of desired results.

ï‚· Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements in area of responsibility.

ï‚· Maintains an up-to-date functional database on geological information.

ï‚· Identifies and liaises with key stakeholders to ensure achievement of business objectives

ï‚· Ensure Compliance with customer and plant specifications.

ï‚· Designing and developing proposals to both existing (mandate expansion) and new clients (market extension)

ï‚· Generate quotations for prospecting clients.

Specific Authorities

Performing process audits and technical audits.

ï‚· To measure the performance of all personnel.

ï‚· Ensure development, maintenance and implementation of personnel and equipment.

ï‚· To take disciplinary action against staff when not complying with rules and regulations.

ï‚· Ensure the environment the people are working in is safe.

ï‚· Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.

ï‚· Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.

ï‚· Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.

Profile

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • A tertiary qualification in Geology/Chemistry
  • Computer literacy

Required Skills

Minimum of 5 years applicable experience in the field of Geology

ï‚· Knowledgeable with washability and sink float analysis

ï‚· Knowledge in data evaluation.

ï‚· Knowledge in density based cleaning process

ï‚· Good report writing skills.

ï‚· An analytical mind.

ï‚· Attention to detail.

ï‚· Great communication skills (oral and written)

ï‚· Advanced knowledge of computer aided resource modelling and estimation techniques.

ï‚· Core handling, core sampling and knowledge of coal quality analyses.

ï‚· Previous supervisory experience would be recommended.

ï‚· Client liaison is essential.

ï‚· Good interpersonal and communication skills.

ï‚· Knowledge and advice to provide advice to laboratory and operations.

ï‚· Ability to problem solving
