POSITION INFO:
Our client is seeking a self-motivated, experienced, and target-driven Harvest Manager to join their team at a berry farm in George. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Harvest Department and ensuring that the best quality fruit, meeting customer specifications, is harvested in an efficient and planned manner. The Harvest Manager will report directly to the Operations Manager.
Purpose of the Role:
To manage the Harvest Department, ensuring that fruit of the highest quality is harvested according to customer specifications, while maintaining efficiency and minimising waste.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee productivity, labour, and quality processes within the Harvest Department.
- Provide leadership and direction to ensure deadlines are met and field waste is minimised.
- Develop and implement best practices and policies to enhance efficiency.
- Lead the training and development of the Harvest staff to optimise performance.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety practices across the department.
- Ensure compliance with industry quality assurance standards, including HACCP and BRC.
- Ensure customer specifications are met for both local and export markets.
Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Proven management experience, ideally in a similar agricultural or harvest environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent numerical and planning abilities.
- A self-disciplined team player with high integrity and a commitment to meeting targets.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
- Experience with HACCP, BRC, or other quality systems would be advantageous.
- Experience in the harvesting of soft fruit, particularly in a labour-intensive environment, is beneficial.
