SUMMARY:
This Global logistics company, currently seeks your imports and Customs & Excise experience to take up imports role.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Person:
  • Matric.
  • Logistics Diploma an advantage.
  • Certification in Customs Clearing & Forwarding.
  • Minimum 4 to 5 years experience in Operations through Import activities for medium / large business.
  • Knowledge of Customs and Excise requirements for movement of goods outside SA.
  • Working knowledge of Compu-Clear.
  • Solid Clearing and Forwarding Imports experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of shipping documents & procedures required.
The Job:

Administration:
  • Receipt documents/shipping instructions.
  • Monitor documents and requests from clients & Head Office and act accordingly.
  • Request original documents timeously.
  • Prepare and complete every file for invoicing, ensure customer documents are delivered on time.
  • Ensure that files are invoiced out according to rate profiles.
  • Raise purchase orders to suppliers.
  • Assist with any logistics calculations on Import Shipments.
  • Keep all rates requests on file.
  • Follow a quote system and save all quotes on network for easy access.
  • Obtain approval of quotes from Department Manager prior to sending.
Customer Service / Reporting (Internal & External):
  • Follow up on all customer deliveries and always meet and exceed customer expectations with constant communication - telephonic & electronic.
  • Daily status reports to be sent to all customers.
  • Update and provide effective communication to all customers (both internal and external), delivering an excellent service at all times.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all customers.
  • Monthly client forecasting.
Import Management:
  • Registration of shipments on Compu-Clearing.
  • Request for SOB details and shipping line charges.
  • Ensure that all shipping line charges are correct and signed off for payment.
  • Submit cargo dues via Ports On Line.
  • Process Certificate of Origins, EUR1, SADC and GSP Certificates.
  • Process on landing delivery & forwarding orders.
  • Port Health & Plant Inspector releases.
  • Submit relevant documents to the Shipping Lines for final release and Navis update.
  • Knowledge of Import Control Act - Prohibited & Restricted goods.
  • Application of Import Permits to the relevant departments.
  • Stay abreast of industry changes.
Costing & Estimates:
  • Prepare estimates for logistics quotes.
  • Negotiate best possible rates for ocean/air/road/rail to secure the business.
  • Control and manage companies freight rates noting validities and update when necessary.
  • Produce estimates within the required time constraints, but with precision and accuracy.
  • Assist with tender rate preparations.
  • Complete estimates / proposals as per company quote templates.
  • Update client rate schedules as and when required.
Competencies:
  • Knowledge of Break Bulk & Bulk shipments.
  • Good mathematical and analytical skill sets.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with ability to assist with problem solving and delivering on expectations.
  • At least intermediate Excel level.
