Imports Manager

SUMMARY:
My client is seeking an experienced Imports Manager to lead and manage the import operations of their business. The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience in import management within the retail, supply chain, logistics, or FMCG sectors, including 2 years in a managerial role.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the Import Process:
  
  • Manage the entire import operation, from order placement to product delivery, ensuring compliance with regulations and timely execution.
• Supplier & Logistics Coordination:
  
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents to ensure efficient import operations.
• Forecasting & Inventory Management:
  
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate inventory forecasting and stock management.
• Documentation Management:
  
  • Process and file all necessary import documentation, such as bills of lading, invoices, and shipping documents, accurately and efficiently.
• Freight Rate Negotiation:
  
  • Negotiate competitive freight rates and terms with suppliers and logistics providers.
• Purchase Order Management:
  
  • Review and approve purchase orders, ensuring alignment with budgetary and financial objectives.
• Cost & Tariff Monitoring:
  
  • Monitor import costs, tariffs, and duties to control expenses and maximize profitability.
• Performance Tracking & Reporting:
  
  • Track and analyze import performance, providing regular reports and recommendations for process improvements.
• Compliance with Regulations:
  
  • Ensure compliance with import regulations, customs laws, and trade requirements, including documentation and certifications.
• Process Improvement:
  
  • Implement strategies to streamline import operations, reducing lead times and improving efficiency.
• Team Leadership:
  
  • Supervise and mentor the import team, fostering professional growth and team performance.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in an import management role, with at least 2 years in a managerial position.
• Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs requirements, and international shipping.
• Solid understanding of financial processes, including purchase order management.
• Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong leadership abilities with a focus on team development and performance.
• Experience in the retail, FMCG, or supply chain industries.
• Knowledge of global trade practices and emerging trends in import/export regulations.
