The company, TestCard, are an award-winning MedTech company that provide both the public and medical professionals with simple, fast mobile applications that allow for affordable and accessible diagnosis of common medical issues.
Having already secured massive funding in the past, they've successfully secured more funding and are now going on an exciting round of recruitment. I think it's worth mentioning that the company have started to bring in a lot of their own revenue as well - they predict by the end of 2023 that they'll be a profitable business so it's not just funding that they're relying on.
This is a chance to join them on the ground level of what looks like a meteoric rise to be the next tech success story to come out of Edinburgh, as well as the opportunity to join a company which is making a positive impact on society.
What will I be doing?
Great question!
Technology underpins the entire business, so as you can imagine, their tech team is quite important...
You will work across two main projects at TestCard. The first project is continuous development of the main iOS app which is a hybrid Swift and Objective C app. The app was originally built in Objective C and they've been in the process of moving everything over to Swift, so everything you do with that, will be using Swift. The other project you'll be working on is a project that is kicking off just now - this is a completely greenfield project which you'll be able to make your mark on right from the beginning.
As mentioned, they are using Swift for all the work that they do and are always trying to introduce new technologies when they can. It obviously has to make sense to introduce these technologies but if there is something you've played around with that you think would be beneficial to them, then they're more than happy for you to pitch it. TestCard are massive on autonomy, so you'll be able to come in and do your work in the way that you like.
Although much of your time will be spent working on the iOS application, there is the opportunity to do some work on their Android apps too, so experience working across iOS and Android would really make you stand out.
Who am I?
It's obviously pretty essential for the that you've came from some sort of iOS Development background, ideally working with Swift or Objective C.
TestCard have a great culture, so away from the tech side, they're looking for people that will fit in well to that. As mentioned, they like people that can be autonomous and like people that come in and put their own ideas forward. As an example, the majority of their CI stuff has been implemented by someone that came into the business and was passionate about it.
Who will I be working with?
You'll obviously work very closely with the rest of the mobile team and especially with the iOS team. By the end of this recruitment drive, they'll have 3 iOS Developers, 3 Android Developers and a Mobile Lead. They expect to grow the team towards the end of the year as well, which is super exciting!
You'll be working underneath a couple of Senior Developers, who you'll be able to get guidance and advice from - they're super friendly and are very strong technically too.
With social good at the heart of what they do, not only are you getting a chance to work for what in my opinion will be one of the most exciting companies in Scotland, you'll also have a positive impact on the world.
How much will I be getting paid and where will I be based?
You'll probably want to know this before applying...
There is a salary range in place of £35,000 - £55,000 but they could potentially stretch this for someone spot on for the role. With added benefits which include a strong holiday package, career growth and the chance to work on something that genuinely matters!
TestCard are a fully remote company but most of the tech team are based in Edinburgh. Ideally, they'll find someone that is based near Edinburgh but they're more than happy to consider fully remote people too. The team do try and meet up for meetings once per month in Edinburgh so ideally, you'll be flexible enough to get involved in that. Interviews and on-boarding will all be done remotely.
