The purpose of this job is to “lessen the impact of HIV epidemic on individuals, families and communities through innovation and our passion for humanity”. We invite applications for a part-time (25-30 hours per week) two-year fixed term contract medical officer post. The position is well suited for a doctor who has an interest in working in HIV/TB research. The post is within the DTHF Centre for Adherence and Therapeutics (D-CAT) based at the Gugulethu Research Offices, in Gugulethu, working on antiretroviral therapy and Tuberculosis studies.
Minimum Requirements:
- MBChB; with active HPCSA registration as an independent practitioner
- Within 2 years of completion of community service
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge, including competence in clinical management of people living with HIV.
- Demonstrated interest in clinical research.
- Detail oriented and capable of completing study documentation legibly and accurately
- Ability to build interpersonal relationships and use these to manage the study and site structure
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Excellent work ethic
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and execute solutions
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet).
- Willing to work flexible hours and weekends if required
- Valid code 08 driver’s license and own transport
Advantageous:
- Prior research experience
- Valid BLS and/or ACLS certificates
- Willingness to be mentored in staff management or prior experience in managing a team
- Knowledge of ICH / GCP guidelines and valid GCP certificate
- Experience of working in a community-based environment
Responsibilities:
- Working as a medical officer across a number of clinical trials, within D-CAT.
- Operational oversight of all clinical trials: from feasibility to archiving; including recruitment and enrolment, ensuring that ethical and regulatory requirements are fulfilled; ensuring complete and accurate data collection; reducing and resolving data queries.
- Completing clinical trial procedures according to study protocol.
- Analysis of trial data, with abstract and manuscript writing.
- Grant writing and submission in support of D-CAT
- Interacting with local health facilities, study auditors, laboratory, etc.
- Maintaining relationships with site stakeholders.
- Management of study coordinator or research nurse.
