Southern Oil Pty Ltd, an established company and market leader in the manufacturing of Canola oil and related products in the retail, food services, and bulk sectors, has the following exciting career opportunity in Swellendam.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Short Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide practical work experience to Analytical Chemistry Students needing laboratory exposure to gain their qualifications.
This will be a 12-month Internship Contract.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the verification of routine QC performed before, during, and after crushing and the refining
of edible oils, and before the results of samples or processes are recorded and reported.
Ensure that the detail on the Load Sheet is transferred correctly to the documents for delivery.
Ensure the correct calculation of quantities of antioxidants and anti-foam are recorded on the load sheets.
Ensure that each customer has a full, accurate and complete test report.
Responsible for operating sensitive laboratory equipment.
Conduct daily and weekly verification checks.
Assist with Raw Materials and the inspection of goods received.
Manage the retainer and shelf-life of samples.
Assist with the preparation of chemical solutions and standards.
Assist with sample preparation from set test methods.
Adhere to strict Lab Safety, PPE & Food Safety Rules and Regulations.
Assist and be involved with Laboratory projects.
Perform sensory evaluation as per final oil and mayonnaise batches produced.
Ensure continued housekeeping and cleaning in the Laboratory.
Correct handling and monitoring of Critical Control Points and Operational Prerequisite Plans.

Key Competencies:

Education and Skills

In your final year of obtaining a tertiary qualification
National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or any other related Science field
Previous laboratory experience will be an advantage

Able to work under pressure
Good at multitasking
Good problem-solving skills
Attention to detail
Customer service orientated
