CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The core purpose of this academic post is to facilitate and administer teaching, learning, research and engagement
related to Public Law, specifically in the field of Maritime Law, and to be involved in the core functions of the
university.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Facilitate effective teaching and learning in the field of Maritime Law within the Department of Public Law;
• Assume responsibility for course materials, lectures, tutorials and assessment of modules;
• Successful research supervision of under-graduate and post-graduate students;
• Be able to perform independent research in the field of Maritime Law and register for an LLD in this field;
• Perform administrative duties relating to the above performance areas.
CORE COMPETENCIES
• Ability to facilitate teaching and learning and conduct research or potential to grow in teaching and
research in Public Law, with a special focus on Maritime Law, including maritime safety, search and
rescue;
• Ability or potential to supervise under-graduate or post-graduate students in the field of Maritime Law, as
described above;
• Sound communication, administrative and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
• An LLM in a sub-discipline in Public Law with an average of at least 70%;
• The successful candidate must register for an LLD in the field of Maritime Law immediately after
appointment;
• Demonstrable interest in becoming a successful academic;
• Demonstrable interest or experience in Maritime Law will be an advantage
