Metrologist

Duties:

- Checking Fixtures – Design and approve; Customer liaison for approval of concept; Track manufacturing
progress and report on same; Verification of checking fixture dimensions, MSA studies
- Calibration – Maintain internal calibration of all existing gauges and instruments – inclusive of physical verification
of instruments in accordance with works instructions, as well as all relevant documentation. Manage external calibration processes
- Off tool samples – Generate off tool sample report formats for all new parts. Full responsibility for off tool sample measurements
- Conduct of process capability studies as part of process qualification
- Periodic PSW submissions – compilation of documentation package for periodic re-submissions; Conduct
measurements of re-submission samples; conduct interim re-submissions documentation packages & samples
- APQP & Feasibility – supports APQP process by evaluating manufacturing risk based current process data and capabilities
- Quality Planning/Engineering – Carry out Quality planning function eg. process mapping and flow charts; Quality Engineering activities eg. capability studies/ad-hoc measurements as part of investigations; assist with
investigations into failures and compilation of 8D reports
- Documentation and record – Maintain filing system per part number (incl drawings and measuring reports, registers and issue levels)
- Continuous improvement – carry out continuous improvement processes iro all of the above activities

Requirements:

- Essential is a recognized tertiary qualification in a form of engineering eg. mechanical engineering or related (at qualified diploma/degree level) or completed related trade eg. toolmaker
- Essential would be a high level of Mathematical literacy & use of advanced measure equipment and techniques (incl. measurement, trend identification, analysis, mathematical analysis and reporting)
- Essential would be a candidate with proven, demonstrated experience in metrology (similar job outputs as listed herein) at a senior level.
- Highly advantageous is automotive systems and/or metal pressing/steel industry systems process knowledge and proven communication skills (internal and external customers)

- Highly advantageous would be the following competencies:

Advanced level computer literacy (Microsoft packages – specifically Excel) and related measurement software;
Knowledge of relevant government legislation, quality system standards and continuous improvement systems demonstrated by a demonstrated application record in all of the aforementioned

- Advantageous would be a National Certificate in Metrology (NQF level 5) and membership of the National Metrology
