SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Microbiologist to join the team at a Food Manufacturing plant in Pinetown.
The Microbiologist is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of raw materials, production processes, and finished products with microbiological standards and regulations. This role involves conducting microbiological analyses, implementing hygiene practices, and supporting the development of safe and high-quality FMCG products.

Key Responsibilities:
- Microbiological Testing:
- Conduct routine and non-routine microbiological tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Perform environmental monitoring, including air and surface sampling in production areas.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure products meet internal and regulatory microbiological standards (e.g., ISO, HACCP, FSSC 22000).
- Validate and verify cleaning and sanitation processes to prevent contamination.
- Process Monitoring:
- Identify and monitor potential microbiological risks during production.
- Provide recommendations to minimize contamination risks.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all microbiological analyses.
- Prepare detailed reports for audits, regulatory submissions, and management reviews.
- Research & Development Support:
- Assist in developing and testing new products for microbial stability and shelf-life.
- Evaluate preservatives and antimicrobial agents for effectiveness.
- Hygiene Training:
- Provide training to production and quality teams on hygiene practices and microbiological risks.
- Promote awareness of food safety standards and microbiological compliance.
- Audit & Inspection:
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring all microbiological protocols are followed.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies for inspections and certifications.
