Network Cabling Technician (Wits ThirdStream)

Main purpose of the job:

• To support, implement and maintain all network-related activities such as troubleshooting hardware and software problems and LAN related problems
• Additionally, they will support the company network and be an integral part of new network cabling installations and support

Location:

• Parktown, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

Installation and Project-related -:

• Install, maintain, and repair network cables
• Test and troubleshoot issues using network communication tools and systems
• Conduct thorough inspections of network cables to ensure the best-practice methods are in place
• Pull, route, or label CAT5, CAT6, and Fibre cable
• Install various support structures, including cable racks, j-hooks, inner duct, and other related structures
• Communicate and collaborate with other members of the IT Support service team to resolve complex issues
• Provide high-quality service to all customers
• Document network by labeling network cables and record as-built diagrams and specifications. This includes Fluke testing of installations

Support and Maintenance -:

• Troubleshoot to resolve all network-related issues
• Manage tickets effectively and timeously through the helpdesk system
• Work together with the IT support team for fast ticket resolution
• Ensure users have a clean and neatly routed trunking and network layout in the working space
• Complete site weekly checks to ensure cabling is neat and complies with company standards
• Daily health checks on the network using monitoring tools
• Ensure all telephony handsets using Teams are running at 1GB minimum

Required minimum education and training:

• Grade 12

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum of 1 year experience doing network cabling

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Must have a basic understanding of IT networks and terminating cables on patch panels
• Must be able to take ownership of all allocated network-related projects and problems
• Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
• Ability to exercise discretion, work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team
• Must have a high level of customer service orientation
• Must have a positive attitude with the willingness to continuously grow in a fast-paced environment
• Good Communication Skills
• Demonstrated strong customer service orientation
• Ability to facilitate discussion among people with different backgrounds and opinions leading to consensus
