Job Title: Orthotics & Prosthetics Practice Assistant
Department: Orthopaedic Services
Location: Centurion
Responsibilities:
1. Assist orthotists and prosthetists in patient care activities.
2. Maintain a clean and organised workspace, ensuring all tools and equipment are sterilised and ready for use.
3. Schedule appointments, manage patient records, and provide administrative support.
4. Assist in the fitting and adjustment of orthotic and prosthetic devices.
5. Educate patients on the proper use and care of their orthotic/prosthetic devices.
6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans.
7. Handle phone inquiries and communicate effectively with patients and their families.
8. Support inventory management by tracking supplies and placing orders as needed.
9. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain patient confidentiality.
Qualifications:
1. Matric/Grade 12 with additional relevant nursing or equivalent medical qualification.
2. Registered with the HPCSA or SANC
3. Previous experience in a healthcare or orthotics/prosthetics setting is preferred.
4. Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
6. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
8. Basic computer skills for record-keeping and scheduling.
9. Physical ability to assist with patient transfers and movements.
10. Own transport required.

Work Environment:
• This role primarily involves working in a clinical setting, assisting orthotists and prosthetists in providing patient care.
• Traveling between hospitals in Centurion to attend to patients is required.
• The assistant may also be required to handle administrative tasks, communicate with patients, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
Working Hours:
• Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00
• Friday: 08:00 - 14:00
• On-call: 1 weekend per month
• As this is a clinical role, early morning or late evening shifts may occasionally be required.
Salary:
• Market-Related – depending on experience
Start Date: 01 March 2025
