SUMMARY:
Our client within the Animal Health / Reproductive sector is looking to appoint an experienced Ovine - Reproductive Technician for their branch in Bloemfontein.
A reproductive technician is responsible for collecting, evaluating, and processing semen samples, monitor the health of animals, maintaining accurate breeding records, and collaborating with veterinarians to address reproductive issues, all while adhering to strict biosecurity and animal welfare protocols, essentially facilitating successful breeding through assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in animals.
POSITION INFO:
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Animal Health
- Min 3 years' working experience within a similar field
- Semen Bank Duties:
- Collecting and administering Nitrogen into storing containers and flasks
- Preparing and storing of semen straws, as per the required quantities for the programmes on hand
- Transport fresh and frozen genetic material, ensuring proper handling and timely delivery
- Ensure proper storage of genetic materials post-programs, maintaining quality and compliance
- Animal Health:
- Oversee the health, treatments, and complete disease testing of all sheep
- Admission and release of animals
- Embryo Flushing
- Embryo Transfer
- Artificial insemination
- Ovum Pick-up
- Medications and treatment of animals
- Handling and feeding of animals
- Biosecurity, cleanliness, disease and maintenance control
- Maintain site biosecurity, cleanliness, and general maintenance of the facility
- Record and schedule site maintenance tasks, including waste management, herbicide application and pest control
- Clerical / Administrative
- Completion of 'saad-bank' / straws, client data records and forms
- Completion of Ram selection records / health records
- Assisting clients with animal admission administration
