An opportunity for an experienced PATTERNMAKER (TEXTILE & CLOTHING MANUFACTURING) is required for permanent employment based in the Newcastle district.
- The Patternmaker is responsible for creating precise templates and patterns for textile and clothing manufacturing.
- This role requires a deep understanding of garment construction, fabric properties, and industry-standard techniques.
- The Patternmaker ensures that designs are translated accurately from concept to production, maintaining high-quality standards and contributing to efficient manufacturing processes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pattern Creation: Develop accurate patterns based on designer specifications, technical drawings, or customer requirements using traditional and digital tools (e.g., CAD software).
- Garment Fitting and Adjustments: Collaborate with design and production teams to assess prototype garments, identify fitting issues, and make necessary pattern adjustments for optimum fit and functionality.
- Material and Fabric Analysis: Consider fabric characteristics, weight, and stretch when drafting patterns to ensure garments fit and function as intended.
- Grading Patterns: Modify patterns for different sizes, ensuring consistency in fit across size ranges.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare clear technical drawings and specifications to communicate pattern designs to production teams.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all patterns meet company and industry quality standards before they are approved for manufacturing.
- Cost Efficiency: Develop patterns that optimize fabric usage, minimize waste, and enhance production efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work closely with designers, seamstresses, and production managers to troubleshoot design and production issues.
- Trend Adaptation: Stay updated with industry trends, patternmaking techniques, and new technologies.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Relevant qualification in Fashion Design, Patternmaking, or Garment Technology (NQF Level 4 or higher preferred).
- Certification or diploma in patternmaking is advantageous.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in patternmaking within the cutting room in the textile or clothing manufacturing industry.
- Experience with manual drafting and CAD systems (e.g., Gerber, Lectra, Optitex) is highly desirable.
- Experience in garment fitting and alterations.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
SKILLS:
- Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and cutting techniques.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Problem-solving skills with a creative and solution-oriented approach.
- Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- An understanding of industry standards, grading rules, and manufacturing processes.
