SUMMARY:
Our client in the Winelands/Tulbach region is looking for a Phyto Medicinal Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing the cultivation, harvesting, processing, and quality control of medicinal plant materials in compliance with international best practices, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree/National Diploma in Botany, Horticulture, Agriculture, Food Science, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in GMP, GACP, or related quality standards would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Phyto medicinal product manufacturing or related fields.
- Proven experience in working with medicinal plants, herbal extracts, or natural products.
- Experience in managing production teams in an agricultural or processing environment.
- Hans-on experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance processes.
- Experience with sustainable sourcing and cultivating practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:Performance Measures:
- Compliance with GACP, GMP, and other regulatory standards without deviations.
- Consistent achievement of product quality specifications and yield targets.
- Reduction of processing waste and optimization of resource utilization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with R&D teams to test and improve existing products and develop new formulations.
- Ensure compliance with South African and international regulations governing medicinal plants (e.g., SAHPRA, WHO, EU).
- Manage production schedules to meet demand while ensuring operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Train and supervise production staff to ensure adherence to best practices in Phyto medicinal production.
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits for regulatory compliance and certification.
- Maintain accurate records of cultivation, processing, and quality control activities.
- Conduct quality control assessments on raw materials and finished products, ensuring compliance with regulatory specifications.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Phyto medicinal production processes.
- Monitor and optimize production processes to maximize yield, potency, and quality.
- Manage plant material sourcing, including wild collection and sustainable farming practices.
- Oversee the cultivation, harvesting, drying, and processing of medicinal plants in compliance with GACP guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards such as GMP, HACCP, and ISO relevant to Phyto medicinal products.
- Ensure workplace health and safety regulations are followed to minimize risks associated with plant processing.
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits for regulatory compliance and certification.
- Maintain accurate records of cultivation, processing, and quality control activities.
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Understanding of extraction techniques such as steam distillation, solvent extraction, and cold pressing.
- Experience in handling regulatory documentation and compliance processes.
- Strong data collection, analysis, and reporting skills for production tracking and improvement.
- Knowledge of sustainability and ethical sourcing practices for medicinal plants.
- Proficiency in using production management software and quality control systems.
- Awareness of market trends and regulatory changes in the Phyto medicinal industry.
- Strong understanding of medicinal plant cultivation, harvesting, and processing techniques.
- Knowledge of phytochemical properties and the therapeutic uses of medicinal plants.
- Familiarity with GACP, GMP, HACCP, and ISO standards related to Phyto medicinal product manufacturing.
- Proficiency in quality control techniques, including physical, chemical, and microbial testing.
