Our client in the Petrochemical industry is seeking to employ a Pipe Fabricator to join their team. Please note that this is a (fixed term contract).

Roles:
A Pipe Fabricator in the petrochemical industry is responsible for cutting, assembling, and installing pipes used in industrial processes. They ensure that all piping systems are fabricated to precise specifications, meeting industry standards and safety regulations.
 
Responsibilities:
Pipe Fabrication & Assembly:

• Read and interpret piping isometric drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Measure, cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes according to design specifications.
• Use fabrication tools such as grinders, welding machines, torches, and cutting saws.

Material Selection & Preparation:

• Identify and select appropriate materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy pipes).
• Ensure pipes are free from defects, corrosion, or contamination before fabrication.
• Prepare pipes for welding by bevelling, cleaning, and aligning them properly.

Welding & Joining:

• Assist welders in fitting pipes for welding according to welding procedures.
• Ensure proper tack welding and alignment before final welding.
• Follow welding codes (e.g., ASME, API) and ensure high-quality pipe joints.

Quality Control & Inspection:

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections of fabricated pipes.
• Verify compliance with industry standards (ASME B31.3, API 1104, etc.).
• Assist in hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing of pipe systems.

Safety & Compliance:

• Follow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and confined space entry rules.
• Adhere to petrochemical industry standards, including OSHA and company-specific safety policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent hazards.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

• Maintain tools, machinery, and equipment in good working condition.
• Report any defects or malfunctions to the supervisor for timely repairs.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of fabrication materials.

Collaboration & Reporting:

• Work closely with welders, pipefitters, and engineers to ensure accurate fabrication.
• Provide updates on project progress, challenges, and material requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used and fabrication time.

Experience & Qualification

• 3 to 5 years’ experience within the petrochemical industry.
• Medically fit to preform duties.
• Must be able to work shifts.
• Compulsory inhouse testing for potential candidates.
• Clear criminal record.
• Police clearance (SAPS) adventitious.
