CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

SAIMI seeks to appoint an experienced Project Coordinator to oversee and coordinate the maritime outreach and awareness programme, aimed at raising national maritime consciousness by educating and creating awareness of the role and value of South Africa's oceans and maritime sector, including stakeholder engagement. The positions report to the Programme Manager.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Outreach and Awareness 1.1 Coordination of the Maritime Outreach and Awareness Programme.

1.2 Develop and implement activities to raise national maritime consciousness.

1.3 Develop and implement activities to raise awareness of socio economic opportunities.

1.4 Promote understanding of the strategic significance of the sector.

1.5 Host activities for and in support of maritime awareness.

1.6 Coordinate youth development programmes.

1.7 Coordinate activities to promote maritime awareness at school and tertiary level.

1.8 Develop partnerships that support maritime awareness.

1.9 Develop database of relevant partners and stakeholders.

1.10 Raise awareness about employment opportunities in the sector.

1.11 Raise awareness about available bursaries being offered in the sector.

1.12 Maintain comprehensive career reference guide and provide input to Dive In careers website and mobile application

1.13 Enable access to membership of professional bodies.

1.14 Central point of contact for outreach and awareness enquiries.

2. Maritime Policy and Advocacy

2.1 Provide support to the Programme Manager in the following areas: 2.2 Development and implementation of a strategic advocacy plan that will position SAIMI and its impact in society favorably among key stakeholders and the general public

2.3 Research on policy, data, insights, and trends that help make case for the value and impact at local, region, and collectively on a national scale;

2.4 Policy insights and foresights that enable policy makers to make decisions which maximize the accrual of sustainable benefits for the country and its citizens.

2.5 Contribute to SAIMI research outputs and capabilities with partners and stakeholders - build relationships with similar institutes in maritime research, universities, and research organisations.

2.6 Contribute to advancing the vision and mission of SAIMI by providing data, information and education on various policy and strategic trends that may impact the achievement of sustainable outcomes within the oceans and maritime sector.

3. Project Coordination

3.1 Participate in the development of project plans and monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating progress thereof. 3.2 Ensure projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project.

3.3 Overseeing daily implementation of day-to-day operations of the project including needs assessment and setting goals and objectives.

3.4 Managing and coordinating all the administrative duties of the project including liaising with relevant stakeholders regarding buy-in, project status and milestones.

3.5 Coordinating and attending meetings including establishing and maintaining internal and external contacts as necessary.

3.6 Preparing and maintaining all related documentation and reports related to the project and managing provision of feedback and reports to stakeholders.

3.7 Acting as a resource person by performing research, analysing information, providing documentation, and preparing reports for stakeholders.

3.8 Verifies and analyses the accuracy of all data and information used or generated by project; resolves any discrepancies or problems.

3.9 Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions from meetings.

4. Information Management

4.1 Maintain current and relevant information the status of tasks on the project plan. 4.2 Prepare any narrative reports necessary, for approval by the Programme Managers to internal or external stakeholders.
