RESEARCH DATA MANAGER / ANALYST

FIVE (5) YEAR FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

EAST LONDON, EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE

The main purpose of this position is to manage data collection activities and services against set deliverables, study milestones and in line with the study protocol. The Data Manager will: 1) oversee the development and actioning of core data collection tools and platforms, 2) implement data quality assurance systems, and 3) provide study-monitoring reports on implementation indicators and descriptive analysis of study data. The Data Manager will further be responsible for building up and overseeing data team staff in support of DTHF projects in Eastern Cape.

The incumbent must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or be in current possession of a valid critical skills work permit.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree that focuses on Epidemiology or Biostatistics/Statistics, or other quantitative field
  • At least 3 year's demonstrable experience building and managing complex data collection tools using Redcap (please detail in cover letter)
  • At least 3 years' experience managing and analysing public health research data
  • At least 2 years staff management experience
  • At least 2 years demonstrable experience implementing and monitoring field-based data collection activities for public health research studies
  • Experience in the use of data analysis packages (e.g., STATA, SPSS, SAS or R) for Data Analysis
  • Experience in the development of back-end database systems including SQL, Oracle and MariaDB
  • Knowledge of research documentation standards

Advantageous:

  • Interest in leveraging Data Manager position for a PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related quantitative field
  • Experience in designing data collection tools using audio computer-assisted self-interviewing (ACASI), CommCare, or other custom-made applications
  • Experience using ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of research methodology, including quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Knowledge of POPI Act and its impact on data collection, management and sharing
  • Technical Project Management knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge of emerging data technologies and eHealth systems
  • Valid code 8 driver's license and own vehicle
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
  • IsiXhosa speaking
  • Existing academic publications/manuscripts

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement robust data collection tools using Redcap
  • Institutionalize Implement high quality data collection, management, and quality assurance systems and processes
  • Develop and implement real-time data quality assurance processes and procedures
  • Perform data cleaning and log data queries for investigation
  • Support the design compatible and integrated systems for data coordination and sharing with research partners
  • Develop user-friendly interface applications/tools for data collection, facilitate trainings and field implementation
  • Share best practice with other DTHF Data teams
  • Work with study Principal Investigator, Project Lead and Project Manager to develop data management and quality assurance plans, including project progress monitoring tools
  • Ensure training of and optimal implementation of all components of project data management
  • Develop and automate statistical dashboards on project implementation and key study variables
  • Train, support and manage Data Team staff, including data coordinators, administrators and field-based data collection staff members
  • Prepare and extract analytic datasets, and perform analyses for project PI and managers
  • Manage data collection resources, assets and tools
  • Attend project management meetings
  • Support study Principal Investigator and Project Managers in analysis of quantitative research data for study purpose and to monitor operational and implementation progress
