JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To coordinate the data processing and management activities of research projects such as developing standard operating procedures, overseeing data capturing and conducting analysis and develop rigorous data quality controls

Location:

  • Parktown, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Conduct a literature review to determine what research has been done and what the gaps in knowledge are
  • Develop research and program evaluation protocols
  • Supervise fieldwork (data collection, interviews, etc.) and where necessary conduct data collection
  • Ensure quality data management
  • Conduct data analysis according to the agreed data analysis plan
  • Write up results report
  • Write or contribute to peer-reviewed publications (2 per year)
  • Write grant proposals
  • Collaborate with other investigators on related studies and evaluations
  • Obtain approval from relevant ethics and other regulatory bodies
  • Monitor progress of research projects.
  • Conduct program evaluations
  • Write, review and/or approve SOPs
  • Develop research and program evaluation tools
  • Write ongoing progress reports as per project reporting requirements
  • Stay abreast with relevant research findings
  • Write or contribute to conference presentations
  • Disseminate research findings internally and externally including presentations at research days and conferences
  • Coach and train team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organization
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge within the team by identifying relevant training needs and topics
  • Develop relevant training material and presentations
  • Conduct ad hoc research training interventions
  • Participate and actively contribute to social science forum/Stata users group
  • Promote harmony, teamwork, and sharing of information.
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership of driving your own career development by attending training and development sessions and relevant forums/meetings
  • Maintain and update knowledge of developments in the field and expertise

Required minimum education and training:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics Preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & STATA
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrated publication record

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of research experience in public health or related field
  • Clinical trial experienced advantageous

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Certification in good clinical practice. Proven technical expertise in the chosen discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing research projects
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis software
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Assertive, confident, and adaptable
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software i.e. STATA or related packages
