Safety Manager

SUMMARY:
Our Client is looking for an experienced Safety Manager, who must be based in Cape Town.

The Safety Manager will be someone who will be in charge of making sure that employees follow health and safety regulations and supervising operations to promote the wellbeing of their team.

Job Description:
Safety managers will primarily be responsible for ensuring that the company complies with legal requirements and adheres to guidelines. He/She must establish and promote a health and safety culture within the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations and procedures
• Advise the company’s administrative team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations
• Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations.
• Observe, audit, and monitor safety on job sites, including personnel, equipment, and materials
• Conduct audits, inspections, and performance reviews to ensure compliance
• Providing guidance to the project management team regarding health and safety issues and ensuring the site complies with all industry, local, state, and federal guidelines.
• Evaluation and analysis of previous injury reports based on available data.
• Manage and lead inquiries on accidents and injuries
• Conduct research on changes in environmental regulations and policies to ensure compliance
• Conduct training sessions for employees to prevent workplace accidents
• Prepare webinars and meetings to create awareness of health and safety practices
• Identify safety issues, propose solutions, and provide recommendations
• Ensure that all employees work in accordance with the internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices
• Make sure that notification, investigation, and case management of project site injuries and incidents are in collaboration with management
• Assessment of health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and adherence to legal requirements
• Maintain employee compliance with safety laws and policies.
• Ensure a safe work environment by overseeing the inspection and maintenance of equipment
• Implementing new employee onboarding processes focused on safety and health management
• Conduct regular reviews and update procedures to keep abreast of current operations and comply with regulations
• Maintain a proper record of workers’ compensation claims in case of accidents

• Registration with SACPCMP as a Manager is required
• Minimum of 8-10 years' experience in a similar Safety Role
• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and Safety or related field
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to lead and teach a team
• Administrative, writing, organisational, communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, intercultural dealings, adaptability, quality management, dependability, and initiative
• Highly motivated, structured, and resilient
• Great attention to detail
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• Efficient communicator in English and Afrikaans, any additional languages will be highly advantageous
• Valid driver’s license and own transport
• Able to travel extensively
• South African citizen
