POSITION INFO:
Key responsibilities
- · Assist management in maintaining and improving existing procedures, objectives, and standards.
- · Lead the development and maintenance of a reporting system for environmental performance information.
- · Develop, implement, and maintain mine closure and rehabilitation strategies, policies, and standards.
- · Draft and establish strategies, policies, and procedures to govern climate change initiatives and legal compliance.
- · Review and implement the mine''s operational environmental management plan (EMP).
- · Monitor and ensure compliance with EMP commitments.
- · Establish, implement, and maintain the environmental and social management system.
- · Compile the aspects and impacts register.
- · Develop, implement, and monitor environmental strategies, policies, and performance indicators.
- · Implement and monitor greenhouse gas strategies, including reporting emissions as per IFC principles and the London Company’s Act, to funding institutes (e.g., ABSA) and the parent organisation (Firestone PLC).
- · Manage contractors to ensure compliance with EMP and legal requirements.
- · Ensure adherence to all reporting requirements for authorities.
- · Support key environmental and risk factors such as cultural heritage, air quality, weather, flora and fauna, land management, waste management, and legal compliance.
- · Identify and implement immediate corrective and preventative actions.
- · Ensure significant tasks and activities are identified and safe work procedures are established.
- · Conduct environmental audits.
- · Implement projects by liaising with consultants and service providers to ensure ongoing environmental compliance.
- · Manage budgets, schedules, and environmental assurance reviews aligned with organisational standards and objectives.
- · Advise executive committees on future environmental trends and issues.
- · Monitor trends and provide reports to the project management team.
