POSITION INFO:
To provide discipline specific engineering services to iX engineers and its clients on a number of projects, including feasibility studies, technical investigations, design, procurement documentation and administration, contract administration, construction monitoring and project management duties, while supporting the broader iX engineers business, values and vision.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
Business Development and Support
- Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to business development and tender processes as and when required.
- Contribute to the marketing and business development of the Water Department in the Cape Town location in order to win new clients/projects.
Project Management and Administration, Health and Safety and Quality Management Procedures
- Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration, risk analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing.
- Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
- Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.
- Manage project costs by review and approval of project labour and disbursement costs.
Project Planning and execution
- Ensure that the client requirements are collected and that the scope is defined and approved by the client.
- Supervise network analysis to ensure that work is performed to standard.
- Ensure that the project budget is confirmed and approved by the client.
- Ensure that the project schedule is developed in line with the client requirements and approved by the client.
- Prepare and evaluate alternative concept designs, prepare technical reports, and cost estimates and liaise with other professionals, both internally and externally.
- Do detail hydraulic designs.
- Act as Design Team Leader and ensure the development and coordination of detail designs, manage the preparation of drawings and tender documentation, in order to produce engineering deliverables of a high standard.
- Presents designs, status reports to clients.
- Facilitate and assist with the tender, evaluation and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site handover.
- Act as lead site supervision representative.
- Undertake contract administration and construction monitoring duties.
- Responsible for project administration from stage 1 to stage 6 (ECSA).
- Compile status reports using the information provided by the Engineers
- Facilitate close-out of completed projects.
- Ensure effective communication with the project team.
- Develop initiatives to improve the cost effectiveness and efficiency of project execution.
Development, Training and Mentoring
- Participate in continuous professional development training in order to maintain professional registration.
- Mentor, coach, train, and provide technical leadership to others who are registered as candidate engineers/technologists.
- Part-take in and facilitate “lessons learned” workshops.
- Leadership and Relations
- Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company.
- Effectively manage project teams to control risk and to achieve targets on time and within budget.
- Assist with the compilation and review of discipline specific technical standards, templates and technologies.
EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS
- B. Eng degree.
- Professional Registration.
- Post-graduate qualification in Project Management is advantageous.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- A strong technical background with a minimum of 8 years Civil Engineering experience.
- A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the water discipline, and the basic requirements of other disciplines.
- A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
- A sound knowledge and experience of various contract forms relevant to implementation of the discipline.
- Able to identify issues, problems and opportunities; make timely decisions; develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Project management and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to convey information and ideas to individuals and groups, and make presentations when required.
