CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
• To deliver the teaching and assessment of clinical skills and simulation in the MBChB Program.
• To provide stewardship of clinical skills training through the effective and safe use and management of training areas and equipment for the delivery of clinical skills teaching, simulation, and assessment.
• To enhance the development of fit for purpose primary healthcare-oriented graduates through
the teaching of clinical skills and reasoning and the encouragement of inner growth and
personal development.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• To participate in the curriculum development of clinical skills and simulation in the MBChB Program.
• To teach, assess and provide timeous feedback in clinical skills and reasoning to medical and health science students.
• To develop and utilize a variety of creative teaching methodologies, including blended and online approaches for clinical skills and simulation learning and teaching.
• To work together with the Faculty of Health Sciences to establish and build relationships on the clinical healthcare platform.
• To supervise students for clinical skills learning and teaching as needed at clinical training sites.
• To support and contribute to interprofessional learning opportunities.
• To take an active role in research, including the supervision of undergraduate and post graduate Health Science students.
CORE COMPETENCIES
• Possession of sound clinical knowledge and skills as a Medical Professional.
• Experience in teaching clinical skills to Health Science students.
• Ability to keep abreast of the latest, innovative technological changes and trends in Clinical Medicine and Health Professions Education.
• Ability to work flexibly in cross-functional teams in the teaching and development of students in the Medical School and Faculty of Health Sciences in the clinical skills laboratory and on the clinical platform.
• Ability to consult and provide advice, facilitate discussion and resolve any areas of conflict.
• Recognise and deal with cultural diversity, and establish trust, credibility and respect with the medical program team and medical students.
• Perform academic administrative duties.
POST REQUIREMENTS
Education
MBChB degree.
Registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner.
A postgraduate qualification in Health Professions Education will be an advantage.
Experience and skills
A minimum of 5 year’s clinical work experience as an independent Medical Practitioner in a South African public health facility.
A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in teaching and learning.
Valid driver’s license.
