A prestigious fine-dining restaurant is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to enhance our guests'' dining experience by expertly pairing wines with our menu. If you have a deep love for wine and exceptional guest service skills, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

• Train restaurant staff on wine knowledge and service
• Ensure correct presentation and temperature of all drinks
• Keep the wine list updated and relevant
• Place orders for wines and beverages
• Meet with suppliers to source exciting new wines
• Maintain stock levels and ensure proper storage conditions
• Conduct temperature checks and maintain wine service area
• Ensure all equipment, including decanters, is clean and in good repair
• Minimize loss through breakage, waste, theft, or incorrect orders
• Perform monthly stock-takes of beverages
• Uphold the highest standards of guest satisfaction
• Adhere to the Liquor Act and all related regulations

Requirements:

• Grade 12 with a Cape Wine Academy Certificate or WSET Level 2 (minimum)
• 2-3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Wine Tutor
• Strong knowledge of grape varieties, wine regions, harvest times, climates, and the winemaking process
• Experience in wine listing and ordering
• Passion for wine and hospitality
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong customer service focus
• Ability to engage with distinguished clientele professionally
• Well-presented, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented
• Flexible and accountable
