JOB DESCRIPTION:

Technical Author required for a growing software company in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

The Business

They are a growing software company who focus on a niche area of finance software. They are now industry leaders in the UK and expanding globally. They are looking to expand now into Europe and the US and are hiring at scale. Over the last two years, they have rebuilt their product into a SaaS based cloud offering and have ultimately re-modernised the environment.

In the last two years, they have brought in a number of new technical hires and they have ambitions to double in size in the next five years. They have recently moved back into their office, post Covid and also post refurbishment. They have offices in both central Edinburgh and Glasgow and the business have moved to a hybrid working environment. They would ask for you to be in the office for two days minimum weekly, and are totally flexible out with this.

The environment is hugely collaborative, the tech is cutting edge, they have a cloud first approach and the team are keen to hear any idea you might have on automating or improving the current system. You will work alongside some enviable names in the industry and you will have a key part to play in the team.

The role

This is the first hire for a Technical Author in the company and it is very much a role to be carved out by somebody. The business admit that their documentation could be improved and you will help to develop and drive the documentation creation. You will have a lot of say in this area. They already have two Technical Authors across a different part of the business, so you will sit in a team of three.

You will be at the heart of their production process developing user and administration guides for the clients and working side by side with product and technical design teams. Ideally, you'll have experience in producing high quality documentation for a software company or organisation working in a related field.

Having the confidence to somewhat interrogate the Developers would be great and coaching on documentation would be handy also. It is vital that you have a strong ability to develop documentation which is translatable between technical and non-technical users. This will encompass producing documentation for new requirements and the re-engineering of legacy specification documents.

Key Skills and Experience:

** Creation and maintenance of User and Administration documentation

** Creation of documents and diagrams, in technical information in order to convey it to the target audience

** Maintain an index of documentation

** Creation and revision of existing documentation production procedures and practices collaborating with the internal IT department.

** Collaborate with developers, testers, designers and other technical experts to ensure accurate information is captured and documented

** Interfacing directly with all project stakeholders (internal and external) to obtain necessary information for the production of the documents

This is an incredible opportunity for a logical thinking Technical Author to join a fast-paced organisation at a great time. You will play an integral part in developing User-Centric guides and will be working with industry leading technology.

If this sounds interesting, please apply straight away, or call Hamish for an informal chat.
