Ventilation Manager

Our client has an opportunity available for a Ventilation Manager.

Requirements:

• A Chamber of Mines NQF 7 Certificate in Environmental Control- essential.
• Computer literacy- essential
• A degree or diploma in a relevant field would be advantageous.
• Knowledge and experience in Emergency preparedness and Response Management- essential.
• Experience in the design and optimisation of complex ventilation and refrigeration systems on a deep level mine- essential.
• Knowledge and experience in the design and management of systems for the prevention of underground fires and flammable gas explosions- essential.
• Experience in managing Occupational Hygiene programmes.
• 5+ years’ experience in heading up the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene department on a shaft.
• Membership of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa would be advantageous.
• Medical certificate or medically fit to obtain one.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the effective designing and optimising ventilation and refrigeration systems to ensure a healthy and safe environment and sustain the business.
• Ensure that all, short-, medium- and long-term ventilation and refrigeration planning is aligned with the business planning process.
• Coordinating the Emergency Preparedness and Response plan for a section of the Mine.
• Develop and maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene standards and systems.
• Develop and maintain strategies that will ensure a mining environment conducive to health and safety.
• Design, implement and audit systems to effectively manage underground fires and flammable gas.
• Ensure alignment with the industry best practice in terms of technical standards and strategies.
• Ensure proper asset and cost management mechanisms are implemented and maintained.
• Ensure a sustainable workforce by attracting, developing and retaining critical skills and adhering to best practice people management principles.
• Ensure legal compliance.

This is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract position.
