Our client in the Manufacturing and Engineering industry based in Richards Bay is currently looking to employ a Workshop Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience on equipment (manufacture & repair).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in quality management.
  • Relevant trade qualification or Management/Operations diploma.
  • Occupational Health and Safety for Managers.
  • Lathes and milling machine knowledge will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of fine tolerances, measuring tools & gauges experience is essential.
  • Solid experience in overall manufacturing planning / scheduling.
  • Proven expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices.
  • Be able to read and understand working drawings, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Have excellent leadership and managerial skills.

 

Responsibilities:

Workshop / Warehouse

  • The Workshop Manager reports to the Operations Director and manages the workshop.
  • Monitors schedules and ensures implementation accordingly.
  • Prepares long term strategic planning and delivers continuous improvement in his/her area of accountability.
  • Ensures all workshop / warehouse equipment is maintained in good condition according to Fives standards and South African regulations.
  • Monitors the actual hour’s vs quoted hours and investigates discrepancies.
  • Provides technical guidance to the workshop team during the manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Ensures SAP system is updated with relevant production information.
  • Maximizes asset and resource optimization to ensure that production targets and quality standards are met.
  • Prepares workshop forecast for budget meetings.
  • Oversee stock take activities and compiles weekly KPI monitoring.

Maintenance

  • Implements and manages a maintenance plan for the site.
  • Requests relevant maintenance services to be arranged by Procurement.

Leadership

  • Manages teams and ensures that individual targets are achieved.
  • Manages HR related issues with support from HSE/HR Manager.

Quality

  • Manages the overall Quality Assurance / Quality Control.
  • Manages the pre-approval and auditing of potential sub-contractors and manufacturing suppliers.
  • Participates in NCR investigations and discussion to prevent re-occurrences.
  • Monitors the NCR cost and participates in preventative measure to ensure reduction in NCR costs.
  • Oversees the implementation of ISO9001.

HSE

  • Ensures compliance to HSE procedures and regulations.
  • Complies with HSE roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensures production and maintenance is carried out in accordance with the OHS Act (83 of 1995).
  • Responsible for safety as per Section 16.2 appointment.
  • Develops and maintain a safe workplace for all employees and contractors and ensures that safety issues /actions are closed out within required timeframes.
